Low Vision Assessment Clinic

When there's no further improvement possible for your vision, optical devices are available to assist with your daily vision needs. You don't need a referral to visit our low vision clinic – just give us a call!

Available to both children and adults

Patients may have congenital or acquired eye conditions that limit independence and vision. Common eye conditions our patients have included:

  • Age-related macular degeneration
  • Albinism
  • Glaucoma
  • Retinitis pigmentosa
  • Sight loss due to acquired or traumatic brain injuries
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Cataracts
  • Stargardt's disease

What is a Low Vision Assessment?

A comprehensive hour-long low vision evaluation is performed to:

  • Establish the remaining amount of vision.
  • Determine the amount of vision needed for desired activities.
  • Explore different devices to maximize vision for important visual tasks.

Examples of devices include:

  • Low Technology Devices:
    • Specialized glasses
    • Tints
    • Monocular
    • Binoculars
  • Field Enhancement Devices:
    • Magnifiers
    • Audio book players

We collaborate with the Assistive Device Program (ADP) to help fund eligible patients.
